Eating Out

Auberge La Bonnaie is run by our great friend Pascal, who speaks very good English. A warm welcome, good food and great ambiance with lovely surrounding gardens and a good basic choice of food available at reasonable prices. Open everyday except Sunday evening and Mondays. Not a good choice for vegetarians as the speciality is steak or lamb filets grilled over a wood fire. Tel 0296 315171.

For traditional crêpes and a lovely atmosphere, try Les Hamacs, a "hippy" bar (Les Hamacs Allée des Bungalows Sables D'Or Tel: 02 96 41 32 13. Great outdoor eating in the summer and a safe, enclosed kiddie sandpit and play area together with a fine taste in music including Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and other rock greats! Also has an indoor pool table. A short walk from the Casino where there is parking.

For seafood delights, try any one of the harbour-side restaurants in Erquy, although be warned - they're generally a tad expensive. Alternatively, there is a lovely seaview restaurant at the far (East) end of the bay at Val André, illuminated at night by blue neon. A good compromise, although without seaviews, is La Himbert, on the main road to Sable D'Or near the turn-off to Plurien. Delicious seasonal seafood as well as good meat dishes, snails, etc, served in a rustic, cosy atmosphere although the tartan frills may not be to everyone's taste!

Slightly further afield (20 minutes drive) is La Moulerie De La Baie, Jopsinet, Planguenoul, 22400, France. phone:+33 (2) 96328222 just a short walk away from the fabulous Baie de St Brieuc and a vast expanse of mussel beds.
